A small number of ANU PhD Scholarships which provide a stipend are funded by Colleges which may be available through mid-year entry or at other times of the year. It is normal for recipients to undertake study on a full-time basis. However, in accordance with strict criteria, the scholarship may be awarded for part-time study. International scholars must undertake study on a full-time basis. It is expected that the scholarship normally will be taken up by 31 August in the year for which it is awarded, although, subject to the approval of the prospective supervisor, Head of Department and Dean/Director, a later start date may be possible. The date by which a scholarship must be taken up in a particular instance will be made clear in the formal letter of offer for the scholarship.

The Alex Rodgers Travelling Scholarship is offered to one or two RSAA graduate students to travel abroad with direct relevance to their thesis work (It will not be awarded to fund an overseas observing run). The award is based on scientific merit of the program, benefit of the program to RSAA and the student, and the effective use of the funds from the scholarship. The stipend is up to $6,000.00, depending on available funds. The committee may decide to divide an award amongst a number of deserving candidates.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Educational Foundation is the largest private supporter of graduate women. Established in 1881, the Association has a long and illustrious history of helping women achieve their personal and professional goals. International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research in the USA to women who are not US citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate studies at accredited institutions are supported.

Applications are invited for PhD Research Scholarships in the fields of Physical, Theoretical, Biological, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry.
Other benefits include a $1,000 relocation incentive paid to all students moving from an interstate or New Zealand university to the ACT. Funding for these scholarships is made possible by an endowment setup to commemorate the contributions of the late Professor Olin J Eggen. Professor Eggen, a native of Wisconsin, USA, was Director of Mt Stromlo Observatory from 1966 through 1977, a period that saw considerable growth and with it the foundation of the high international regard in which the Observatory (now the Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics) is held.
The award provides a supplementary stipend of $2,500 pa tax free to the holder of an ANU PhD scholarship, Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship, or equivalent recognised scholarship. The ARC Centre for Interactive Legume Research is an internationally-renowned research network of plant scientists conducting high quality research into legumes and other plant species. The ANU node of the Centre seeks highly motivated PdD students to carry out research aimed at understanding the molecular characteristics of secreted proteins and peptides and gene regulators involved in stem cell maintenance and development and long distance signalling.
