There will be a number of scholarships available for students who have taken subjects or have life experience relevant to the study of Plant Science in their schooling. Preference may be given to students from rural and regional areas. Application process will be competitive and include an evaluation of UAI, as well as a short essay on why you are interested in plant science.

The Forest and Wood Products Research and Development Corporation (FWPRDC) has established an undergraduate scholarship in support of the Council of Australian Governments‚ (COAG) framework to advance indigenous reconciliation.
The scholarship will fund an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student to complete an undergraduate course leading to a degree in forestry at an Australian university.
The scholarship will cover Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS) fees for the duration of the course.
Requirements: The applicant must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin. The scholarship is only available for students who have been accepted to study at an Australian university offering a degree course in forestry, commencing in the 2007 academic year.

PhD Scholarship in MicroRNA's
up to $32,000 p.a
The ARC Centre for Interactive Legume Research is an internationally-renowned research network of plant scientists conducting high quality research into legumes and other plant species. The ANU node of the Centre seeks a highly motivated PhD student to carry out research aimed at understanding the molecular characteristics and role of microRNAs involved in gene regulation, stem cell maintenance and development.
A three year scholarship of up to $32,000 per annum is available. Successful candidates will receive support for research expenses, conferences and may be eligible for Centre recognitions.

ACTEW Honours Scholarship

The ACTEW Corporation is committed to the sustainable use and management of freshwater ecosystems in the Australian Capital Territory. As part of this commitment, the ACTEW Corporation has partnered with the School of Botany and Zoology at the Australian National University to promote the study of aquatic flora and fauna in the Canberra region.
The scholarship is valued at $7,500 and will be paid in equal instalments during the period the successful applicant is enrolled in the School of Botany & Zoology Honours Program.

AL Hales Honours Year Scholarships in Geophysics and Geochemistry

The Research School of Earth Sciences awards 2 scholarships each year to the value of $7,000 plus reimbursement of up to $4,500 for relocation costs. Successful applicants will be enrolled in an appropriate department within the Faculty of Science and participate in that department's honours program. Research for the honours thesis will be undertaken in the Research School of Earth Sciences and supervision will be shared jointly between the department and the Research School of Earth Sciences.

ARC Centre of Excellence for Anti-Matter Matter Studies Honours Scholarships

The Centre for Antimatter-Matter Studies (CAMS) is a collaboration of Australian universities and research institutions to study the interactions of electrons and positrons with different types of matter, from single atoms to biological molecules, surfaces and materials. The wide ranging research program brings together some of Australia's top scientists from a broad range of disciplines.
The CAMS ANU node offers Honours projects to complement the ongoing research activities being undertaken in the Centre. A scholarship of $5,000 for award to an applicant accepted to study behavioural ecology or conservation biology as part of the Honours Program in Botany and Zoology. DSTO and the AIP have established the DSTO-AIP Scholarship Scheme to celebrate the Einstein International Year of Physics 2005 in Australia. Hilary Booth Scholarship

The MSI has instituted a $5,000 scholarship in memory of Hilary Booth, who passed away suddenly in May 2005.
Requirements: The Scholarship will be awarded to a student in the mathematical sciences entering the final honours year, or their third year with the intention of proceeding to an honours degree. The primary criterion for award is academic merit, though preference may be given to applicants satisfying one or more of the following criteria (i) A student returning to study after a break from higher education; (ii) A student not from the ANU; (iii) An interest in mathematical biology.

JCSMR Medical Science Scholarships
$6,000 plus $4,000 relocation allowance
There are several John Curtin School scholarships for both first and second semester intakes. The scholarship provides a stipend of $A6,000 for one year for projects in medical research.
These scholarships were established by the University from funds endowed by Emeritus Professor Leonard Broom to support programs at the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health to serve Indigenous Australians. One or more may be awarded each year.
The Scholarships are intended to enable Indigenous Australian students to undertake a program of study in an area related to NCEPH's research. Each scholarship will be up to the value of $5,000. There will be an additional allowance of up to $4,500 for reimbursement of travel and fieldwork expenses, if required.
Requirements: Applicants must be Indigenous Australian citizens and meet the following criteria: (a) They must either be students currently enrolled or previously enrolled at this University or another Australian university and are intending to undertake fourth year honours in an approved field leading to the degree of bachelor at this University; or (b) They must be students currently enrolled or previously enrolled at this University or another Australian university and are intending to undertake a program in an approved field leading to the award of postgraduate diploma; or (c) are students intending to undertake a Summer Research Project at NCEPH.

National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health Honours Scholarships
$5,000 plus $4,500 relocation allowance
The National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health (NCEPH) awards a number of scholarships each year known as an NCEPH Honours Scholarship. The scholarship program is conducted jointly by arrangement between the NCEPH and the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Economics and Commerce, and the Faculty of Science. Each scholarship is worth up to $A5,000. There is an additional allowance of $A4,500 for those successful applicants who have transferred their enrolment to this University for the Honours Year.
Requirements: The applicant must be studying full-time in a discipline relevant to the research undertaken at NCEPH and ideally will be supervised by a member of the academic staff at NCEPH. Some of the relevant fields are: environmental sciences, anthropology, sociology, economics, population studies and medical sciences. Indigenous Australian students are encouraged to apply.
Paul Bunyan Memorial Scholarship in Medical Sciences
$6,000 plus $4,000 relocation allowance
A scholarship of not less than $6,000 is available to assist a student, enrolled in the Fourth Honours Year of the Bachelor of Science with Honours degree program or enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Science program, who is undertaking the program in a medical science field preferably related to cancer research. RSBS offers a number of scholarships for suitably qualified students wishing to undertake their fourth year (Honours) in the biological or medical sciences field within the Research School of Biological Sciences. A selection of exciting research projects are available for Honours study in 2008.
Scholarships are for one year and are valued at $6,000. In addition scholars transferring from a university outside the ACT region are eligible for a travel and relocation allowance of up to $4,000 (reimbursed upon the production of approved receipts).
Requirements: Applicants should be completing, or have recently completed, the third year of a relevant Bachelors degree course or equivalent with majors in appropriate medical or biological science areas, and have a strong academic record. Students must be undertaking an Honours project within RSBS, and have a supervisor from within the School to be eligible for the RSBS Honours Scholarship.
To complete your application you will need to nominate two academic referees to comment on your academic performance using the referee report form which is to be returned to RSBS.
Research School of Physical Sciences and Engineering Honours Year Scholarships

The aim of the RSPHYSE Honours Scholarship is to encourage outstanding undergraduate students to continue into research degrees and careers.
These Scholarships are available to third year undergraduate students who are completing, or about to complete, an undergraduate degree in a related discipline and who intend to enrol in the Physics Honours Program at the Australian National University.
RSPHYSE Honours Scholarships are valued at $5,000 with a further $4,500 available for relocation and travel costs for students who are transferring to the University (conditions apply).
Requirements: These Scholarships are available to third year undergraduate students who are completing, or about to complete, an undergraduate degree in a related discipline and who intend to enrol in the Physics Honours Program at the Australian National University. Selection is based solely on the basis of academic merit.

The Joyce Fildes Scholarship in Medical Science
$6,000 plus $4,000 relocation allowance
A scholarship of not less than $6,000 will be available for a student who is enrolled in the Honours Year of a bachelors degree offered by the Faculty of Science who is undertaking studies related to medical sciences. A relocation allowance of $4,000 is available for scholarship holders recruited from outside the ACT region. The scholarship is named in honour of Dr Joyce Fildes and is funded by her donation and the ANU Endowment Fund.
Each year the University offers up to one scholarship each for nationals of Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.

A small number of ANU PhD Scholarships which provide a stipend are funded by Colleges which may be available through mid-year entry or at other times of the year. It is normal for recipients to undertake study on a full-time basis. However, in accordance with strict criteria, the scholarship may be awarded for part-time study. International scholars must undertake study on a full-time basis. It is expected that the scholarship normally will be taken up by 31 August in the year for which it is awarded, although, subject to the approval of the prospective supervisor, Head of Department and Dean/Director, a later start date may be possible. The date by which a scholarship must be taken up in a particular instance will be made clear in the formal letter of offer for the scholarship.

The ARC Centre for Interactive Legume Research is an internationally-renowned research network of plant scientists conducting high quality research into legumes and other plant species. The ANU node of the Centre is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to work on a special project funded by the Australian Research Council.

The purpose of this scholarship is to attract Australian and New Zealand students of high calibre to pursue postgraduate research within the Research School of Chemistry and the Department of Chemistry. The scholarship provides for payment of a supplementary stipend to an outstanding holder of an APA or ANU Chemistry PhD Scholarship or other stipend allowance scholarship for the duration of that scholarship.
Eligible program is a PhD. Maximum duration is three years full-time, with a possible six month extension.

Alex Rodgers Travelling Scholarship

The Alex Rodgers Travelling Scholarship is offered to one or two RSAA graduate students to travel abroad with direct relevance to their thesis work (It will not be awarded to fund an overseas observing run). The award is based on scientific merit of the program, benefit of the program to RSAA and the student, and the effective use of the funds from the scholarship. The stipend is up to $6,000.00, depending on available funds. The committee may decide to divide an award amongst a number of deserving candidates.
Eligible Program is PhD. A one-off payment cleared against receipts to the value of the award.

American Association Of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowships
Tuition scholarship
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Educational Foundation is the largest private supporter of graduate women. Established in 1881, the Association has a long and illustrious history of helping women achieve their personal and professional goals. International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research in the USA to women who are not US citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate studies at accredited institutions are supported.
Eligible Program is PhD. Up to fifty eight scholarships on offer.

Anthony and Barbara Brookman Graduate Coursework Forestry Scholarship

Students beginning graduate coursework in Forestry are eligible for a scholarship drawn from the Anthony and Barbara Brookman Forestry Education and Research Fund.
Eligible Programs are the Graduate Diploma and the Master in Forestry.
Requirements: Awardees will be expected to participate in the National Forestry Masters Program during their study.

Australian National University Master degree by research scholarships are available for full-time study in the Graduate Program of Chemistry.
Scholarships are offered initially for one year but may, subject to satisfactory progress and in accordance with the prescription of the particular study program concerned, be extended for up to a total of two years.
Other benefits include: scholars from interstate are eligible for assistance with University accommodation and are eligible for an establishment allowance; married scholars from overseas may be eligible for an additional allowance for dependent children.

Applications are invited for PhD Research Scholarships in the fields of Physical, Theoretical, Biological, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry.
Other benefits include a $1,000 relocation incentive paid to all students moving from an interstate or New Zealand university to the ACT.
